You Are Holy
What is holy? We hear and use the word a lot. We speak of holy Scripture, even of holy places and people. It is such a sacred term that we tend to make it a lofty religious ideal, perhaps beyond our reach. But it is not beyond our reach.
The word “holy” means “set apart.” God is holy because there is no other remotely like Him. At the same time we recognize that we are uniquely created by God. This means that we are special in His sight and, thereby holy. If this is true, it should have bearing on how we live and what we live for. It reminds us that God has a reason in creating us.
You are created for a purpose. You can make a difference in your family, church, and community. You’re not part of these groups by accident. The Lord wants you to represent Him and His love where you are.
Holiness isn’t a term of religiosity. It is God’s description of you. He has chosen to set you apart as one of His own. As you grow in faith you become more and more His person. You may not feel holy. You don’t need to. You simply need to know that God has a unique purpose for you. Jesus Himself said this:
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.” John 17:17-19
