I’m going to write about thankfulness a few times in the next couple of weeks. I’m interested in being thankful, but I’m more interested in how we can create thankfulness.
I would guess that you have a few people in your history for whom you are truly thankful. This comes from something they did, or said, or something else. Have you turned your gratitude into something that enriches others, as well?
One way to transform your gratitude into action is to directly respond to the person you wish to thank. It may be someone from last week or decades ago. In some cases the person may have passed on. In that case, you could let his or her survivors know how and why you’re thankful.
There’s another thing you might do that also passes on your thanks. You could choose to become the person for whom others are thankful. This isn’t a plan to rack up brownie points, it’s a plan to do what God created you for.
Start by thinking of how you’ve been blessed by others. Then think through how you, with your gifts and knowledge, can do something similar for someone else. Think of people God has placed in your life. Who there has needs that you and the gifts you have can help?
You may be surprised with how and where you can help. You’ll become a reason for some one else to be thankful.
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. if you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God. Psalm 50:23 (New Living Translation)
