Letting Go

It’s good, sometimes, to let go of things in our lives. It can be like a spring cleaning. You look around and see things you may like but don’t really need. Then, there are things we hold on to that we should let go. Broken things; broken thinking. Our lives are complicated enough without holding on to what holds us down.

In our lives, minds and souls there can be clutter. Junk from our past, petty jealousies, fears and frustrations can occupy the mind, jamming up space we need to clear. Sometimes, we even hold on to bad memories, Re-playing them in our minds gives a very perverse pleasure.

Examine your negative feelings, fears, resentments, and the like. You’ll recognize them because they are tightly connected to your memories and the feelings we work hard at blotting from our minds

A good practice when you are frustrated with the spiritual/emotional clutter is to pray asking the Lord to reveal it. Then try to talk through your frustrations and fears with the Lord as you pray. Then wait. Read Scriptures that you find instructive or inspirational.

I don’t think it will work right away, but keep at it. Ask God to draw back the curtains of your mind. The result is in God’s hands. There’s a good word for this: catharsis. Release the bad so that you can be filled with more that is good.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
