Do you have a radio or TV that most often is turned on and tuned into a news channel? I have to admit that I tend to do this. But I got to thinking about it. The fifteenth time through, it’s no longer news. And its often irritating.
I remember back when Huntley and Brinkley did a 15 minute stint and that seemed to serve as informative enough news at the time. If you don’t know who Huntley and Brinkley were, talk to your Mom (actually, Grandma). If something were REALLY important, we seemed to hear about it in plenty of time.
Constant barrage of anything wears us down. If the barrage is news, it can elevate our fear factor and threaten our ability to remain calm. The same is true for constantly following the market exchanges. Unless you are a broker and must have instant stock and bond information, a steady flow of the same is more than likely to agitate than inform.
It would be better to read some of the Bible and other good books. Put on some music that soothes your soul. Take a walk. With a friend. Turn the TV off.
We have a choice of what we allow into our lives. It’s always best to be filled with good, nurturing things, be it food or information.
Disclaimer: I am a news and TV junky, and this is mostly written to me as much as by me.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
