RENEWAL Devotional: Personal Encounter
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
There were two criminals on each side of Jesus. Only one changed his heart towards repentance. Recognizing who Jesus was without even knowing him personally, the thief recognized that an innocent man was about to be crucified. The thief said to Jesus, “Remember me when you enter your kingdom.” (Luke 23:33-43)
At the cross, there were many people mocking Jesus. They were cursing at him and had violent anger towards him. Yet Jesus, did not respond but, instead, showed his mercy and love towards the people by praying for them.
I can just imagine how others may have had a personal encounter with Jesus while he was being hung on the cross. Jesus’ love reminds us that even though people may mock our faith, we must do our best to show the same love that Jesus gave at the cross. We can allow others to experience a personal encounter with Jesus through our testimony of what God has done for us.
Each one of us has a story to tell about how we have had a personal encounter with our Savior. To change a man’s heart is to win his soul by loving our neighbor as ourselves. (Mark 12:31)
