Laughter is like medicine to the human spirit or in other other words, it’s good for our “soul.” Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine…” Proverbs also talks about how the human spirit is sad when laughter is absent from within our soul. “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but when the heart is sad (depressed or oppressed), the (human) spirit is broken.” (Proverbs 15:13)
The Bible is very clear that the human spirit be in the community of laughter. Whether we are watching a funny movie, or something our children say or do that makes us laugh; this is uplifting to our spirit.
Laughter is essential especially when your feel sad or just having a bad day. The Bible is not the only source that validates – “laughter is like medicine”.
When you laugh, what does it actually do to your human spirit and your physical body?
Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Biology in, Smiling builds trust, says, “Science could therefore show that the human laughter has a special kind of status in our social interactions. No matter if we are talking to a friend, confiding in a family member, or making business with a partner – our laugh – both fake and real – is crucial in deciding what the outcome will be.”
Scientific American reports “Laughing with friends releases feel-good brain chemicals, which also relieve pain, new research indicates.”
Laughter is really good medicine and good for your health and over well- being, so lighten up and find something to laugh about throughout the day!
