RENEWAL Devotional: Don’t Be Void of Joy
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
Read the Scripture: “Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10).
Joy comes when we are truly connected with God, our Heavenly Father. It can be difficult when we lose someone to regain our peace and joy. It is a season where it is okay to feel sad and grieve. But when that grief takes the place of our joy, then it will take longer to regain our peace. As peace is the forerunner for true acceptance of receiving our joy.
Joy also brings healing to our hearts. If we don’t allow joy to come into our hearts, we feel empty or sad and even depressed.
Jesus alone is our path to joy. There are carbon copies of joy or false types of joy that really gives us a false hope and false peace. But when we learn that our Savior is our hope of glory, then we won’t feel void but rather joy and contentment.
