RENEWAL Devotional: Be a Blessing
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds (blessing) and glorify your Father in heaven.”
God blesses us so we can be a blessing to others. These are times in which we need to look out for one another. Some of us might think, “well, when I have enough finances, I will help others.” Others might say, “I don’t have the time to give to others.”
What does it mean to do good deeds for others? Matthew 25 v 31-46 talks about how we can be a blessing. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’”
Jesus expects us to be a blessing, and it is not just about taking care of our neighbor. If you have a valuable resource, and another needs a stepping stone, you can bless that person by sharing your resources, knowledge and wisdom. If we all work together like the bees working with the queen bee, we would have a better future for our future generations.
Be a blessing today!
