RENEWAL Devotional: Be Quick To Repent

Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Chaplain and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital

What does repentance mean? In the book of Romans it says “…And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 ….and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.…” Romans 3:23.

We need to learn to go beyond our last place of repentance. (Acts 2).

Repentance is a change of heart and mind that brings us closer to God. We have all sinned and we don’t walk a perfect life. We try, but isn’t it wonderful news that Romans 8: 1 says ” Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”  This does not give us a license to sin, but, rather, it means, if we fall or slip into old ways- God is ready to forgive us. Be quick and repent. Some people condemn themselves thinking there is no turn around for them.

To repent towards God means to turn your heart and thoughts around and never look back; surrendering your thoughts to Him.  Isaiah 55 says, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  God knows what is best for you.

When it comes to addictions, the hardest part can be forgiving yourself. We never get out of self condemnation. God says, “Run to me those who are weary…. and I will give you rest.” Isaiah 40: 31

Don’t dwell on your mistakes.  Don’t let shame or condemnation hold you back from your victory. We all make mistakes and we learn from it. It’s what we do after learning through our mistakes that will give us the victory in every area of our life.
