RENEWAL Devotional: Damascus Spiritual Experience
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
Many of us have had a life changing experience. A Damascus experience can be a sudden change in our heart and soul. For others, a need for drastic change or a need for a Damascus spiritual experience like Apostle Paul mentioned in the book of Acts. We know the story. Saul, a high ranking official, given legal authority to persecute the Christians on the road to Damascus.
Saul had a spiritual dilemma. We all encounter those times in our lives. Saul was persistent and convinced that this individual called “Jesus” was not the Jewish Messiah.
On the way to a destructive path, Lord Jesus intercepts. Saul encounters a conversion and his name was changed to Paul.
Today, when we read Apostle Paul’s writings through the eyes of Christ, those written words have the power to transform our lives forever.
Apostle Paul shared his Damascus experience whereever and whenever he could. Because now he realized that God was real, and sent His son to heal him, deliver him and called him to be one of the greatest evangelistic apostles of all times.
What’s your Damascus experience? It is it a story about your own life and how God changed you from inside out. Are you a work in progress? I encourage you to read the book of Acts this week and receive a Damascus spiritual experience. Put yourself in Paul’s shoes and imagine yourself there as your read those chapters this week. Make the Word of God come alive in you today!
