Helping Your Family to Thrive
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
It’s summer time, and families are planning vacations and spending time with their loved ones. It is also a time to reunite with extended families, and catch up on old times. When you have blended families, it can be a bit challenging, but as long there is unconditional love and unity, the family will thrive.
Each parent’s goal is to ensure that their family is thriving. James Dobson from Focus on the Family says, “Family unity is a gift from God.” We give of ourselves compassionately to each family member. Summer is the best time of the year to create family memories. Many families go on vacations but for some, finances do not allow this. There are free local community events that families can enjoy together and still be able to create wonderful memories.
Families that fail to thrive create an environment of low self esteem, boredom and eventually symptoms of depression. Children need to be stimulated mentally, socially and spiritually. Be sure your child engages in reading this summer, has good food to eat and engages with other children.
Don’t miss out your family time this summer, and enjoy every minute. When raising kids, time does fly by fast.
