RENEWAL Devotional: Strive for Unity with One Another
During these times of political polarization, it is important to remember the Bible teaches us to dwell together in peace and to seek unity with one another. Instead of focusing on what separates your point of view from someone else’s, try looking at what you have in common with them. There is usually something to be found, if you try.
Another way to seek peace with others rather than conflict is to look for the feelings underneath a viewpoint being expressed. Is is anger? Is it fear? Is it hurt? Usually, when you unravel someone’s life experience as well as the feelings under their opinions, you can better see where they are coming from. Agreement is not required, but understanding can go a long way in bringing people of differing opinions together.
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” -Ephesians 4:3
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”-Psalm 133:1
“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.”-Ephesians 2:14
