RENEWAL Devotional: Don’t Fight Unnecessary Battles
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
Every battle is not yours to fight. You are a fighter, a warrior in God’s army, and you must choose your battles and avoid running to every battle. If you do, you will become worn out quickly, and it will affect your overall well being.
Fighters sometimes want to engage in everything. They want to be in battle every day for something, someone or some cause. Even professional boxer’s like the late Mohammed Ali, chose his battles wisely.
Choose your battles wisely. Every problem is not yours to solve. Stay focused on God and be aware that getting involved in every situation usually involves you in someone else’s war. Does this sound familiar? In these cases, the best thing to do can be to disengage and recognize that this was not your battle to fight in the first place.
God has given you a specific assignment. If you interfere with the battles of others, you might make it worse or delay the outcome. Know what your assignment is, and pursue your own commission.
Remember, that the battles are not yours at all! They belong to the Lord. 2 Chronicles 20:15, “Let the Lord lead you and guide you.”
