RENEWAL Devotional: Iron Sharpens Iron
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17
How can we help each other become more like Christ? God has given us a spouse, and we can encourage each other. It sharpens our faith and strengthens our marriage. In a good marriage our partner will lovingly challenge us to live out our beliefs. Likewise, we value friendships in which we are loved enough to be confronted when we are not walking the walk of our faith.
To sharpen irons, we need to have a teachable spirit, so we can continue to grow in Christ and in one another. We must have courage to be able to correct one another in love and not with a critical spirit. It must be in the context of love.
Not everyone is in a place where the iron can be sharpened. We all have rough edges that need to be loosened. It helps to remember the golden rule, and think about how you like to receive encouragement and feedback.
