Start Your Year Right: Honor God with Your Eyes
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
We all have to be alert on what we allow our eyes to see. You’ve probably heard that the eyes are the window entry to our heart and soul.
If not dealt with, your secret sins will eventually become an exposed public sin. 82% of Christian men report regularly struggling with pornography. 40% of Christian leaders will have an affair. 88% of successful businessmen have had an affair. [Welton, Jonathon Dr.,: Author of “Eyes of Honor” 2015.]
If you have a problem with pornography, how do you get set free?
Grace is given to us, but it is not a license to sin. Grace is not an excuse to sin. Titus 2:11b, “Grace teaches us to say no to ungodliness and world passions [such as pornography, drugs, alcohol and other addictions].”
Grace is something that empowers us to have the fruit of Self Control. Welton says, “Self-control is the reality of the power [God has given us the authority] to be in charge of yourself.”
Many men and women, who struggle with pornography, struggle with their own identity. God has created men to be protectors- not predators. God created women to protect their beauty, not only inwardly but also outwardly.
You have worth. You are valuable, and your eyes must be on guard at all times. For the end result of pornography addiction is self-destruction. There is hope for any person who wants to be free from any addiction, but recovery is a choice.
Training your eyes to honor God is a step towards being free from your struggles. The process towards healing cannot be done alone. You need to understand the root cause. Then you begin your journey towards God’s intention for you and that is, to live with purpose and freedom from anything that does not honor Him.
