RENEWAL Devotional: Listening To Your Consciousness
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
Have you ever taken a test, and you marked your initial answer, only to go back and change that answer? Later you find that you were right the first time. This has probably happened to all of us. Our consciousness plays a trick on us and we second guess our thoughts, when we should have followed our original instinct.
There is power in our conscious thinking. Many say that when a person goes into a coma, they can still hear us. I believe that the consciousness of our mind never dies until we depart our souls from this earth. It is a living consciousness.
The philosopher René Descartes is famous for his statement: “Cogito ergo sum” which means “I think, therefore I am”.
Thinking is a powerful tool, especially when we mediate on God’s word daily. That consciousness of scripture-based thought throughout the day, helps us keep our peace of mind; trusting in the Lord gives us strength when we need it.
We become conscious about the way we look, dress and how we impress someone. In Isaiah 55:8 it reads, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.
I leave you with this question to ponder, is your consciousness aligned with God today?
