RENEWAL Devotional:Relationships Are Worth Fighting For
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
God wants us to value relationships and work towards reconciliation, restoration and keeping the peace over conflict.
If we want God’s blessing in our life, we all need to learn to be peacemakers. Jesus said, “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9) Which means, we must strive to work to have peace in our marriage, work relationships, and the ability to actively resolve conflict.
Nobody likes the word “compromise,” but it is a very powerful tool and can create win-win solutions.
It is unfortunate that many of us have not been taught how to compromise or resolve conflict. If we were given whatever we wanted as children, we might especially struggle with compromising.
Peacemakers are rare. We may need to fight for our relationships rather than giving up at the first sign of problems. Decide from the beginning that you will do whatever it takes to make your relationship with your spouse and children your first priority. Your work and your ministry come second. So often, we talk about what our priorities are, but our true priorities are reflected in the amount time we spend with them. What is taking up the most of your time, and does it line up to what is most important to you?
