RENEWAL Devotional: This is not a dress rehearsal
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalms 34:7
What do you want out of life? If you don’t know what you really want in life, you’re not alone. A lot of people live their lives having no clue what they want. Life can be so full of distractions that it can be easy to forget to stop and ask ourselves what we really want. You can’t pinpoint exactly what you want in life if you’re constantly sacrificing your time and dreams for other people.
You have only one life; make the most out of it and do things that make you happy. This is not a dress rehearsal–this is your time! Don’t feel bad if you constantly regret things you did or didn’t do in the past, you won’t be able to move forward if you don’t let those feelings go.
Once you pinpoint the one thing that makes you happy, you’ll have a pretty clear idea of what you should strive for in your life. If that purpose in your life, brings peace into your heart, that is exactly what God has assigned you to do.
Some folks just need a little help finding their purpose in life. Ask yourself these questions to give you some direction in setting goals. What are your health goals? What are your career goals? What are your family goals? What do you enjoy doing? Even thinking about what you like to watch on television can give you a clue as to your general areas of interest.
The point is, figure out what you love doing, then do more of it!
