RENEWAL Devotional: Conquering Fear
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
When you feel fear begin to rise in you, ask yourself the following questions: Where does it come from? (You know it isn’t from God.) Fear can come from many things, and most of it comes from not dealing with our past. If we don’t examine what has happened to us in the past, we may be overreacting in fear to certain current events in our lives. What is your fear? What is it that you have to conquer to live victorious?
2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” or self-control. This testifies to the fact that for those who trust in Him, God turns every difficulty, loss, and separation into something good. God, the sovereign ruler of this universe, is in control of your life. His Word is a lamp that will give us clear guidance when circumstances are bleak. The psalms, in particular, are helpful in dealing with fear. It offers the best direction we will ever find.
Conquer your fears! Don’t let fear dominate who you really are in Christ Jesus! You are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you!
Romans 8:37 says, “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” To conquer is to be victorious over an adversary. To be “more than a conqueror” means we not only achieve victory, but we are overwhelmingly victorious.
