RENEWAL Devotional: What Motivates Your Faith?
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
A faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice (II Timothy 1:5). Many people grew up with a praying grandmother, did you? Thank God for those grandma’s. My grandmother prayed for us while we were at school with the prayer of protection. She taught me how to pray for my own children. She never learned how to read or write as she was legally blind, but she knew how to pray.
The influences that people impart into our lives is so important for our spiritual and all around well being. If we surround ourselves with bad influences, that is what we will reap. However, if we surround ourselves with positive influences, those who inspire us–we will reap what they have sowed in our lives.
Spiritual growth is evident when we are known for our relationship with Jesus and as people who embody His message about love. Our faith is inspired by Christ’s message of hope when we feel hopeless. Mary was inspired by Jesus’ love and her actions and attitudes were changed.
Remember to pass the ball of faith through your words and actions so that your children can pass them on to their children’s children. That is the heritage you want to leave them with.
