RENEWAL Devotional: Caught in the Storm
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
God did not promise us an easy life. In fact, Christ tells us in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
The good news is Christ offers us comfort and peace in the midst of our personal storm. In tough times, it is when we separate the wheat from the chaff. Going through hard times can make us stronger or it can put us in a whirlwind that we can’t get out of on our own. This is when we need someone to help us get through to the other side.
When we pass the storm, character is built, our faith is strengthened, and we can help others overcome. That’s the good part about surviving a difficult time–we then have the testimony to share with others, as over -comers.
