RENEWAL Devotional: Disconnect to Reconnect with God and Family

Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.  We live in a fast paced society with a lot of different screens and happenings competing for our attention.  It is hard to get everyone together to have family devotional time.

If we can come together for a meal and disconnect from our screens, we can reconnect with God and our family.  Dinner seems to be the best part of the day to have family devotionals. This is where you can talk about your day. It is also a good time to talk about God’s word and how the word can be applied in everyday situations.

You can start with someone at the table praying for the nutrients that they are about to eat.  This is a mealtime moment where we can talk about things that have hurt us throughout the day and share what God has to say about it through the book of Proverbs that has 31 chapters. We can talk about how to apply wisdom and understanding throughout our day.

I prefer breakfast table talk with the book of Proverbs and the book of Psalms at dinner time.  Try it out and see what will work best for your family.  Great conversations come out of those readings, and it does not take a lot of time which it seems we are all short on. Start today and begin having Table Talk conversations during your family meal time. You will be surprised at all the fun you will have just talking about God and scripture and how it is applicable to everything we face in our daily life.
