RENEWAL Devotional: Fatherhood is a priceless commodity
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
There is a generation of children who are growing up fatherless. Everyone has father, but not all fathers fulfill the important role of fatherhood. Psalm 27:10 says, “Even if my father … abandons me, the LORD will hold me close.”
How we live each day will be our greatest lasting legacy we impart to our sons and daughters, “…as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.”
God created children to need their fathers, and just as important, God created fathers to be there for their children. What kids really need from their fathers is (1) to mirror the relationship they have with Christ (2) a father’s love (3) their time (4) daily encouragement (5) the ability to admit when they are wrong (humility).
No one was born knowing how to be a mother or father. We all make mistakes, and need to admit that we don’t have all the answers.
If you are struggling with your children, take some time to connect with them- take a trip or have a stay-cation and have an adventure right where you live. Spend time communicating with one another. Your children’s future depends it on it.
Brookhaven Hospital’s Renewal Program wishes all the fathers and step fathers a wonderful and very Happy Father’s Day.
