RENEWAL Devotional: Are You Geared Up? Your feet are important to God!
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
As we conclude our devotional series on wearing the Armor of God, we need to discuss the last piece of the armor, your feet. Let’s explore how important your feet are to God.
Ephesians 6: “And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” (Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15), “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace.” Wearing the whole armor of God is an action on our part. It is important to be in readiness mode at all times for what life will bring our way. Likewise, the Christian soldier, having his feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, is always ready to give an answer to everyone that asks a reason for the hope that is in him (I Peter 3:15). Just as the Roman soldiers were ready for any set of circumstances that came their way, Christian soldiers, likewise, are “anxious for nothing” and know that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard (their) hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
In that time, Roman soldiers’ sandals (caligœ) were heavy sandals studded with hobnails, to give a secure foothold to those who would stand firm. Apostle Paul identifies these with the firm “footing of the gospel of peace.” Start your day by reading Ephesians, especially chapter six, and pray for help to wear the full armor of God. You will feel protected, geared up and will sense God’s love throughout your day.
