The Force of the Fruits of the Spirit
Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital
For the next few weeks, we will be discussing the Fruit of the Spirit and how critical it is for us to apply those fruits to our lives on a daily basis. We recently did a series on our Renewal weekly devotional about the Armor of God. You will find that the fruit of the spirit works in conjunction with wearing the Armour of God. The fruit of the spirit helps us develop our character. Many people don’t like to apply the fruit of the spirit, because it can be a bit challenging.
There are nine defined fruits of the spirit that the Bible teaches us about. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22)
These fruits are not developed by our own strength but developed when you work with God on building your character. As believers, we want to please God and we want to work on ourselves, so that these fruits are transparent. Some of us have been through difficult times and have been hurt in the past. Learning to develop your character through the fruit of the spirit can be challenging and sometimes fear will interfere with your salvation. Next week we will begin on the “Fruit of Love.” It is a powerful fruit. When anger is deeply rooted, the fruit of love is a powerful force that can help you overcome the cause of that anger.
