RENEWAL Devotional: The Meaning of Easter
According to scripture, “Christ died for our sins…was buried, and Christ rose again the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:3 KJV)
Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the grave. This is the event that conquered sin, He conquered death and made it possible for you and me to have a personal relationship with God! Easter is not about me. It is not about how pretty we look in a new dress or in a new suit. It is not about egg hunting or having a nice family meal.
Easter is about remembering the sacrificial lamb and where we stand with God in this season of grace. Jesus, our sacrificial lamb, our Savior, our God, our Redeemer – he laid down his life to pay for our sins. Jesus knew the purpose for his life on earth and He endured the cross with His purpose in mind to give us hope and redemption- a new covenant with God.
It is by His love and grace that He brings us to faith and reconciliation. God has even planned our good works (Ephesians 2:10) so that we can have everlasting joy. Jesus was not just a good man who fell victim to evil circumstances. Christ knew what he needed to do to save humanity from their sins, including time and place chosen by the Father (Matthew 26:2). Jesus was not powerless. He accepted his assignment and conquered death to enable us to receive redemption. Christ rose from the dead in power and glorious majesty!
The film directed and written by Mel Gibson called, “Passion of Christ,” was inspired by what Easter truly means to believers. The film is about God’s demonstration of the restoration and reconciliation; Jesus healing the sick, restoring the paralyzed, feeding the multitudes and raising the dead through the power of God. This film depicts the true meaning of Easter, and I hope you are able to see it this week.
I pray that you have a wonderful family Easter tradition and make time to meditate on the goodness of what Christ has done for you!
Let us know what Easter means to you!
