The God of All Comfort

ShadowySanctuary

Written by: Lydia D’Ross, Renewal Program Outreach Chaplain and ordained minister

Recently, a tragedy hit our family, and we lost a great man of God due to cancer. As pastors, we are so dedicated to comforting others.  However, we forget that we too need to be comforted when tragedy hits our own homestead.  Not all pastors have spiritual fathers or spiritual advisors to provide a place of rest and someone to talk with.  Because we are pastors, sometimes people forget that we are only human.  It is important as pastors that we take care of ourselves by seeking fellowship with other pastors in a personal relationship, holding each other accountable and being there for one another.

The Holy Spirit through the Word of God is our comforter.  It is a comfort that we can have God’s power in our lives.   It is a comfort that one day we will have a new body, and be free from this one.  It is a comfort that we can have the peace of God in the midst of tribulation.  There is no one here who does not need comforting from time to time. He cares about you, and what you go through from day to day.

My favorite scripture of comfort is this: (Isaiah 54:10 NIV) “‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”

We encourage pastors to come to our monthly pastoral professional seminars to receive support, information and networking opportunities with other local pastors.  Our next Pastoral Seminar will be on February 12, 2015.  The topic will be about forgiveness in the workplace, with Broken Arrow Police Department Chaplain Rich Manganaro and Harvest Church Associate Pastor Rita Manganaro.
