Separation from God Can Lead to Body Neglect
Written by: Lydia D’Ross, Renewal Program Outreach Chaplain and ordained minister
You are on your way to church arguing with your spouse, cussing, yelling and doing everything the Word of God says not to do. You park your car, open the door, and you’re all smiles and saints. Some say, you can’t act the same way you do at home as you do when you are in church. I say, why not? If you really love the Lord, you love Him wherever you are. This idea that we should act one way at church and a different way at home separates us from God. Children see all the behaviors you do, and so does God. It’s okay to make mistakes, we are all human. But when we neglect God and fail to run to him with our mistakes, we are neglecting our relationship with Him. This can also lead to the neglect of our own body as we seek to fill the void caused by our damaged relationship with God.
We need to be faithful to our body and take care of it. When you neglect your body, you are desecrating something really precious that according to scripture is Holy unto the Lord. 1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwells within you.”
It is not just the inside of your spirit that needs cleansing but also your physical body. God expects us to take care of our body as much as we need to take care of soul and spirit. The life of the soul preserves the whole body. To show God how much we love him is to set our “temple” free from the domination of sickness, drugs, alcohol and anything else that wants to interfere with the longevity of our life span.
Start today and don’t wait until the New Year to take care of you. Every day new habits are formed, and by forming new habits, your life will turn to a new you.
At Brookhaven Hospital’s Renewal Christian Program, we are here to help you make those changes, and to give you a renewed hope and direction. Let us help you with a new fresh start.
