Renewal Devotional: Leaving the Pain Behind You
Written by: Lydia D’Ross, MPA, licensed and ordained minister, Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital
One of the hardest emotional struggles people have is forgiveness and forgiving themselves. According to John 1:9 ,“…believe that you receive forgiveness.” Some say “You don’t understand what so and so did to me.” Some even say “I will forgive, but I won’t forget.” These are valid feelings, but they are not a reflection of faith. If we want Christ to forgive us, we must be able to forgive ourselves, and others. Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and compassionate to another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you.” I truly believe freedom from the past comes from being able to first forgive ourselves and by faith, forgive others.
Set a goal today that you will take the first step to forgive others and to forgive yourself from the pain once caused, and allow forgiveness to bring peace to your heart and soul. Release that person from guilt, and release yourself from rejection or shame. People also struggle with forgiving others. Sometimes this hard to do, and holding back your forgiveness can cause additional stress to you, your family and even may adversely affect your health. Our Renewal Christian Care Program at Brookhaven Hospital provides unique services, to help you overcome those barriers that are preventing you from living a blessed life. So take care of yourself by learning how to forgive yourself and learn how to forgive and release those who have caused you pain. Let us help you live a more peaceful life.
