How to Build Your Christian Marriage

WeddingRingsBuilding a Christian marriage does not happen overnight. In fact, it takes time and effort for spouses to be able to build a good Christian marriage. One of the most important steps in building a good Christian marriage is to build a solid foundation with God at its center.   Here are some of tips on how you can build a Christian marriage that can help you weather the storms that will inevitably come your way.

Read the Bible Together

What most couples tend to forget is to set aside time to read the Bible together.  This isn’t something that people have time for on a daily basis, but one or more times per week will be helpful. Reading the Bible paves the way for your devotional life and you can learn about how to strengthen your marriage from the many passages that are written in the Bible. Moreover, reading the Bible is an inexpensive way to bond with one another.

 Pray Together

It is important that you set a time each day to pray with your partner.  There is an old saying that “a family that prays together, stays together”. As a couple, your marriage will likely be strengthened if you pray together. Through prayer, you will reaffirm your commitment to God.  You have to remember that your affection should go beyond the physical realm and into the spiritual realm.  One of the best ways to do this is to pray together. You not only develop a deeper intimacy with each other, but also with God.

 Make Decisions as a Couple

It is important that you are committed to making decisions together.  Remember that a marriage is made up of two people. As a couple, you will be faced with many different kinds of decisions. It is important that you will be able to achieve mutual consensus with the decisions that you have made. Being able to agree on a decision is also a good sign that you both trust one another and are capable of compromise.

Go to Church Together

Going to church together is also a great way to build a good Christian marriage.  The Bible says that the best way to stir up love is to meet together in the house of worship as believers. This was also supported by the passage in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

The context of building a Christian marriage is not simply about falling in love and thinking love will take care of everything. It requires effort on the part of both spouses and their efforts should be centered on God above anything else.
