Healthy Christians: Live Longer
Taking care of your health is important. Also, helping others in your family to be healthy is important as well. When we take care of ourselves we can do better at taking care of those in our family, whether it is our spouse, children and any other important people in our lives.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says, “16- Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17- If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” (NIV) As Christians, we need to be healthy and take care of our bodies in every aspect and within reason so we can be the example of Christ we have been called to be. We can’t be the example as well when we are sick and under the weather.
There are several ways to take care of our bodies and include:
- Eating the right foods.
- Getting plenty of sleep.
- Following the doctor’s orders.
Psalms 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (NIV). Since God knows us so well, he knows how we are bodies are to work along with what is wrong with them. We should do our best to take care of our bodies since God gave them to us. We shouldn’t expect God to do all the work, we need to do what is necessary to take care of our bodies and keeping them healthy so we can keep doing what God wants us to be doing.
When we are healthy we are teaching our children how to take care of themselves, which ends up helping them to know how to do it as they grow up and eventually become parents. When they know what to do they can take care of themselves, which makes everyone good stewards of the body God had given us. When your body is in good health you have a better chance your mental health and spiritual health will be good as well.
This doesn’t mean you can’t have snacks, caffeine, chocolate, etc. But it does mean you need to watch what and how much you put in your body. When you are careful and take care of your body, you are showing God you care about not only yourself, but God as well. When you are taking care of yourself, you can take care of others and do what God has called you to do with all of your heart, soul and mind. It is hard to do what you need to do when you are sick or having physical problems.
You can always talk to a doctor or other medical professionals to help figure out what it is you need to do to be healthy, what to eat, drink and even how to exercise. You will be glad you did. Living the life that God intends for you requires that you follow his advice.
