Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

What is “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?” What types of occurrences can lead to the development of PTSD? The preceding article gives a good description of this disorder:

“Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a particular kind of anxiety disorder. As its name suggests it occurs in response to an event that has been perceived to be traumatic. Normally this includes aspects of suddenness, danger to one’s self or loved ones, and helplessness due to the overwhelming nature of the event. For example, an auto crash, a natural disaster, a violent crime or combat can be contexts for the trauma that develops into PTSD.”
